AI for Interviews at Metropolis
AI is a powerful tool that's becoming an integral part of our daily lives, and the world of work is no exception. At Metropolis, we leverage AI to make our hiring process more efficient and effective, helping us find the best talent. We also want to be transparent about how we use it and what we expect from candidates.
How We Use AI in Our Hiring Process
We use AI to help us at various stages of our recruitment funnel. This allows our team to focus on meaningful interactions and strategic decisions, rather than administrative tasks.
Initial Screening: Your first interaction with Metropolis may be with our AI-powered assistant. This tool helps us quickly filter out spam and clearly unqualified applications, so our recruiters can focus on connecting with real candidates like you. Rest assured, every resume that moves forward is personally reviewed by a member of our team. You’ll always have a human in the loop!
Interview Preparation: Our recruiters use AI within Greenhouse, our applicant tracking system, to help structure interview notes and brainstorm relevant questions. This ensures that every interview is well-organized and tailored to the specific role and candidate.
Reviewing and Identifying Themes: After live interviews, AI helps us review notes and identify common themes and key insights from candidate feedback. This gives us a more holistic view of each candidate and helps us make informed hiring decisions based on a consistent and comprehensive analysis.
Dos and Don'ts for Candidates Using AI
While we use AI to improve our process, we also encourage candidates to use it responsibly. Here's our guidance for how you should use AI when interviewing with us.
DO Use AI to Prepare ✅
Think of AI as a personal coach that can help you get ready for your interview. It's a fantastic tool for preparation.
Research: Use AI to research Metropolis, our industry, and the challenges we are trying to solve. You can ask it to summarize recent company news or explain complex industry trends, which can help you sound knowledgeable and well-prepared.
Generate Practice Questions: AI can generate examples of interview questions you might be asked, allowing you to prepare and refine your responses in advance.
Practice Responses: Use AI to practice answering questions, helping you articulate your thoughts more clearly and confidently.
DON'T Use AI to Do the Work For You ❌
This is the most important rule. We want to see your authentic skills and genuine thought process.
Don’t Use AI for Live Answers: Using AI to generate responses during an interview, whether verbal or written, isn’t allowed. We want to understand how you think, problem-solve, and adapt in real time, which are skills that are essential for thriving in our fast-paced environment.
Don't Generate Written Responses: When answering questions from our screening bot or a recruiter, your text should be your own. A generic, AI-generated response won't showcase your personality or unique experiences. We want to see the real you!
Don't Use AI for Coding Interviews: For coding challenges, we are interested in your problem-solving skills and thought process, not your ability to use AI tools. While these tools may be part of your daily job, the interview is the time for us to assess your foundational skills.
At Metropolis, we're excited about how AI can make the hiring process more efficient and transparent for everyone involved. We look forward to seeing how you use your skills and a little help from technology to shine!
